Do you know what inspired “The Lone Girl” name? I didn’t either despite knowing of The Lone Girl Brewing Company for quite some time. Turns out it’s a pretty sweet story that will leave you going (awwww!!). There’s a nice little ‘about’ section on their website that will tell the story much better, but here’s the gist: Founded by two families, out of seven kids between them there was only one girl. See, you said ‘awwww,’ don’t deny it! I’m always a sucker for beer that has good roots in family or the local environment. It gives it just that much more substance which I’m convinced makes the beer taste all the better.

Speaking of beer, they have a 12 tap system and a view of the tanks just behind the bar – which is something else I’m always a fan of. The menus are marked with little red dots so you always know what they have available, taking the guesswork out of your trip if you’re not at the bar. I had their “Off the Rails” IPA. It wasn’t as bitter as I typically like, but paired with the slight malty tone it was really enjoyable. It went well with my Fish and Frites as well – Atlantic haddock brined with their SpeaKEEasy Ale and crisp, crunchy breading. MMMMM :). Our group also had their World Famous Rueben, Jumbo Pretzel, Wings, and Fried Cheese Curds. All of which were devoured without complaint, though I did end up leaving my fries and coleslaw on the plate. I like to eat the main course first before I start on the sides just to make sure I have enough room for the”meat” of the meal (and a pint or two).
Lone Girl was our first stop on the way to Madison and it set a great tone for the rest of the day. Lively with a never ending eb and flow of people, it’s the type of place you can take your family for a good meal or meet up with friends to watch the game or just chill. And I’m not exaggerating. We were there for the lunch hour and had families with kids and babies at the tables, sports fans taking up the bar and high tops, and friends just looking to converse at the booths. They even have signature cocktails, liquors, and mimosas for those looking for something besides beer. Probably the first time I’ve seen a mimosa flight as an option at a brewery too!

If you’re looking for a family-friendly atmosphere with good food and drinks (all reasonably priced), be sure to stop into Lone Girl Brewing Company in ‘the only Waunakee in the world.’ I guarantee you’ll find something to quench your thirst and sate your appetite no matter what your ‘usual’ is. I know I did.
Hope to see ya out there sometime!
Cheers ~ Steph
