B’s Tap House

B’s Tap House in downtown Wisconsin Rapids is the only one of its kind along the riverfront. Laid back and focused on the beer and conversation, its a favorite of mine. Every week there’s a different rotation of taps and for those looking for something different you’ll find a few wines and ciders behind the bar.

RYPE: Fruit Basket – Fruited Sour

I was a little worried all the construction would hamper business but even with the roads torn up people still manage to find their way. Just last weekend my mother and I ran into a die-hard Yankees fan and ex-bar owner… and I have to say, there is nothing quite like listening to an old bartender’s stories. He enjoyed the beer and service though, and (in his own words) actually claimed his balding was proof of his mother’s meanness rather than the riffraff of the bar industry. I did get yelled at for laughing too much during his stories but he’s definitely a man I’d want behind the bar. That is probably one of my favorite aspects of B’s – you’ll find both young and old along the bar and even some toddlers running to-and-fro. It doesn’t matter if you’re a homebrewer, a wine-o, or just out with the family, B’s has the sort of atmosphere where anyone will feel welcome.

Now, as good as the conversation is, sometimes I am a little disappointed in the selection on tap. Being a big IPA girl, it can be disheartening to see mostly lagers, sours, and porters on tap. B’s is new in town though and are getting a feel for the local tastes so I can forgive them on this front. It doesn’t hurt to branch out on my end either, as long as it’s not anything like a watermelon IPA… There are plans in the works for 10 more taps as well, so I’m excited to see how the variety will pick up.

If you’ve never been to B’s before, I cannot stress how awesome the people behind the bar are. Don’t know what you want? New to beer? Or looking for a certain flavor profile? They’ll be more than happy to get you a few samples. The boss man, Brandon, was even gracious enough to share a can with us from 608 Brewing Company out of La Crosse. Being a sour, RYPE: Fruit Basket is not my usual go-to, but it’s super refreshing and perfect for a hot summer day. 608 describes it as a “kettle sour with milk sugar, black currants, cherries, blueberries, plum, and raspberries” and I’m hard-pressed to agree. In a way, it reminded me of a sparkling wine cooler, something my mother used to drink when I was younger – fruity but sour.

No matter your taste B’s will have something for you, so grab a stool and see what’s on tap – maybe I’ll see ya there!

I really like your blog. It is good to see a girl writing about something I am interested in also. I have been to Bs and I do enjoy their selections. I love the staff! There are terrific and happy to see you. I like how they try to greet everyone coming in the door!

Great read! Spot on about the bartenders helping you find what you want. Last time I was in there, I was highly undecided on what I was drinking and BAM! The beer was spot on for this guy, a Bud Light guy that dabbles occasionally but has an incredible lack of knowledge to the ins and outs of beer. Also, I’ve seen everything from family to coworkers to Bday parties on hand. So yes, a place for everyone. Enjoy those IPAS😉
